Website Profile: Tell the Advertisers Why They Should Advertise on Your Site

As you may have noticed, the AdTaily Marketplace allows the advertisers to browse through the websites they find relevant, and view their profiles. The more information they find in your website profile, the more likely they are to consider buying an ad on your site. This is especially true for the small sites that do not attract the advertisers with their high traffic but may have a target audience relevant to them. The website profile is also visible in your AdTaily widget, under the “About this Site” tab.

Widget: About this Site

Advertisers don’t have a lot of time to spend on looking through your website to find out why it may be relevant to them. So tell them everything right away by completing this information in your website profile. Tell them what they will be paying for if they decide to buy an ad on your site. Be precise and concise. The advertisers don’t want to waste their time on reading lengthy descriptions. So get straight to the point.

Here are a few things you may want to include in your website profile:

  1. - the topic of your site (what is it exactly you are writing about?),
  2. - your target audience (what sort of people visit your site, and are interested in what you post on there?),
  3. - why it’s a good place to advertise (maybe your site targets a very specific group of people that the advertiser would have trouble reaching otherwise? maybe you write about products that the advertiser wants to sell? maybe the price you set for a day of displaying an ad is very attractive? be creative!).

Don’t write more than 4-5 short paragraphs, because it may simply get boring. Once again, get right to the point. Think about what you would like to know, if you were an advertiser, who needs to decide which sites to choose for an ad campaign. Write it down.

When you have a ready idea of what information is the most crucial to your potential advertisers, log into your AdTaily account, choose the “Websites” tab, and click on “Edit Website.”

Edit Your Webiste

Complete all of the fields, including the tags (separated with commas): words or short phrases that describe what your site is all about. These tags will be used as search phrases, enabling the advertisers to find the most relevant sites.

After you are done completing your website profile, click on “Save Changes,” and the information will be visible to the advertisers right away. You can check how your profile looks like on our Marketplace, by clicking on “View website profile.”

Buy One, Get One Free - AdTaily Extends Your Ad Campaigns!

Because we’ve just launched the AdTaily Marketplace, which we would like you to try out, and because it’s Christmas season (and we like you so much!), we have a special offer for you. Buy an ad campaign via Marketplace for any amount up to €50*, and we will extend it for you. It will run for twice as long at no extra costs for you.

AdTaily doubles your campaign!

It’s really simple: if you buy a one-week ad campaign, we will extend it by one more week for free. If you buy a two-week campaign, you get another two weeks extra.

To benefit from this limited offer**, simply follow these 3 steps:

  1. Go to http://www.adtaily.com/marketplace, browse through the available websites, and choose the ones you want to place your ad on.
  2. Pay for the campaign you’ve created, using your PayPal account.
  3. Once you get a confirmation e-mail, saying that your ads were accepted, fill in this short questionnaire, to share your Marketplace experience with us.

If you have completed all of the steps correctly, and provided us with your contact information (via the questionnaire), we will extend your campaign for you, and send you a confirmation e-mail when this is done.

So go ahead and buy some ads via the AdTaily Marketplace :)!

—————————————————————————————————————————

* If your ad campaign doesn’t cost more than €50 in total, we will simply double the time your ads are displayed for, with no extra costs for you. But you may obviously want to spend more than €50 in our Marketplace. In such a case, we will only extend your campaign by as many days as €50 can buy. For example, if you buy a campaign that runs for one week, and you pay €10 per day of advertising, it will add up to €70. We will extend this campaign by 5 days. But hey, it’s still €50-worth of advertising that you get for free!

**You must buy your ads between 22.12.2010 3:00 PM GMT and 10.01.2011 3:00 PM GMT. The first 20 advertisers who complete all of the above points will have their ad campaigns extended. Your ad has to be compliant with our Terms of Service. Please note that we will refund every person and every target URL only once.

The AdTaily Marketplace is Here!

We are extremely happy to announce that we have launched the AdTaily Marketplace! This new feature enables advertisers to pick and choose among websites and blogs that use the AdTaily widget, and to create entire ad campaigns with just a few clicks.

On the publishers’ side, the Marketplace is beneficial as well, because the advertisers will be able to find their blog or website more easily. When planning campaigns, the advertisers may want to consider both big and small publishers, as they no longer have to buy ads on each of the sites separately. They simply put all the sites they like in cart, and buy an ad on all of them at the same time.

Marketplace Main View

The process of choosing the sites, designing an ad, and paying for the campaign is very simple. Creating a well-targeted campaign of any size and reach takes minutes, and it doesn’t require a registration. In the end, AdTaily is all about simplicity and convenient solutions for both the publishers and the advertisers, and we don’t like making things more complicated than necessary.

The advertisers get a simple tool to reach the exact audiences they want, and the publishers have a higher chance of being noticed by the advertisers. It’s a win-win solution!

Now, using our Marketplace is pretty much intuitive, and the process is simplified to the maximum but here are some basic instructions (below also as a video-guide), in case you need them:

  • 1. Go to www.adtaily.com/marketplace.

  • 2. Choose the country in which you want to advertise.

  • 3. Browse through the list of websites that come up, or narrow the results down by typing in what you want to advertise or what sort of websites are of your interest, and hit “Search.”

  • 4. Choose the websites you want to advertise on, and add them to cart. When you’re done choosing, click “Continue.”

  • Marketplace Site Selection

  • 5. Type in the URL address of the website/ landing page that you want your ad to link to. After you click on “Create Ad,” a suggested image and ad copy will appear in the ad creator. You can choose if you want to use a text ad or a banner ad, and change the image and/or text to anything you like.

  • 6. After your ad is created, you can change the duration of the campaign (anything from 1 to 60 days). The price will be adjusted automatically. And you can still add or remove websites from your campaign.

  • Marketplace Ad Creation

  • 7. Once you’re sure you’ve finished creating your campaign, click on “Proceed to Payment,” and pay via your PayPal account, or with a credit card.

  • 8. After you approve the payment, your campaign is ready to go live, and you will be informed when every one of the publishers accepts your ad.

That’s it! And yes, it’s really that simple. Just give it a try, and see for yourself. Any questions, comments, or suggestions are welcomed, so please do e-mail us at contact@adtaily.com to share your Marketplace experience with us.

Happy ad buying :)!

A Publisher’s Guide to Effective Widget Placement

EDISONDA user experience studio has conducted usability and eyetracking tests of the AdTaily widget, to assess its performance and functionality. Based on the results of these tests, we have come up with some tips for our publishers, which we want to share with you, so that you could get more out of using this self-service advertising solution.

Content vs. advertising

As a publisher, you find yourself in front of a dilemma: you want to put together your website’s content and the advertising space (widget) together in a way that will make both your readers and your advertisers happy. It’s not an easy task.

On one hand, placing the widget in a highly visible part of your website will make it more attractive to the advertisers, because all they want is your readers’ attention.

On the other hand though, your readers do not like obtrusive advertisements. Also, you don’t want to have to redesign your entire website, just to display the ads in a more prominent location.

It doesn’t have to be a problem. The needs of your readers and your advertisers can be reconciled, and this short guide, based on the aforementioned research, will help you in achieving that goal.

Where are the ads most visible?

The following widget placements are the most effective, in terms of how much attention they get from the website visitors:

  • the top of the page
  • the right column (in the three-column system)
  • the central column
  • above the page fold (in most cases)

The picture below is an example of results from the eyetracking test. It illustrates which parts of a website the viewers pay most attention to (the red spots): Visibility of different website elements

How to make the widget more noticeable?

  • Adapt the look of the widget to its surroundings (by changing it’s frame and background color, text of the button, etc.), so it wouldn’t clash with other elements of the website, and so that the viewers wouldn’t notice right away that they are looking at an ad.
  • Don’t make the widget look exactly as its surroundings. Distinctive elements are more noticeable, and attract more attention for longer.

For more detailed information about why the above widget placements are the most effective ones, please read the full (PDF) version of this article.
